Ironman Hawaii Invitation & Skylar's Birthday

I want to wish my daughter Skylar a Happy 8th birthday today. I also have my 13 years of sobriety today and I am grateful for all that I have in my life today.

I also got the word today I am doing Ironman Hawaii on October 21, 2006, as I won a lottery slot. My dear friend Kathleen from NY called me while I was at the Boston Marathon expo and informed me of the news. This is unbelievable and once again shows our slogan is true "With Sobriety Anything is Possible"

I am speaking at the Runner's World Expo tomorrow and then the marathon is Monday. I will fly to New York City immediately after the marathon to appear on ESPN's Cold Pizza then it is off to Long Island for speaking and book signings. I will return home next Thursday and I can't wait to see my family.

Next up is the book signing on April 22 in my hometown.

One last amazing story to share. I had a dear friend move to Boston when I was in the 4th grade. Needless to say we lost touch. Yesterday I was being interviewed on FOX 25 Boston and this guy just happened to see the interview and got a hold of me. We went to the Boston Red Sox game last night and had an absolute ball. Again another reminder of how good life is without using drugs and alcohol.

Thanks to everyone who is supporting this program.

Arizona and Dad

Hello everyone,

Once again I apologize for the lack of entries lately and will once again give the "I am busy" excuse. In reality I am buried but it is all good.

First all, I want to wish my dad a happy birthday and look forward to spending the night with my whole family. I am only home for today then off to the Boston Marathon at 4:30 am tomorrow.

Ironman Arizona is over and I am thankful I somehow managed to finish that race. I struggled big time out there but found strength in all of the supporters I encountered during the race. To each of you who commented on Racing for Recovery and encouraged me to continue, I say THANK YOU very much.

My time in Arizona was amazing. Special thanks to Jack, Brenda, Don and Kay for the dinner and conversation we had last Friday. You all have been there for me since I was a young kid and I am thankful that your support is still there. Don, I look forward to announcing our "project" soon.

Thanks to Borders for arranging my book signing as well. To all who attended thank you very much as it was a honor to meet you all. To my friend Darrin, thanks for the ADDICT sox they are awesome.

Special thanks to Ironman and Ford for selecting me as the Ford Hero of the Day. I am looking forward to seeing the segment on OLN.

Ok I have to get back to business and then spend some time with the kids.

Last thing, please watch ESPN's Cold Pizza on April 18 from 8-10 am EST. as I will be a guest promoting our Racing for Recovery program.

More when I return home from Boston and New York.

Boston and Philly

Hello everyone,

I just returned from a successful trip to Philadelphia and Boston. I had the great pleasure of speaking at Cephalon Pharmaceuticals and doing my first book signing there as well. The company is introducing a new drug to fight addiction and I was honored to be a guest speaker for this amazing company. They ordered 300 books and the response has been very receptive from their employees. Special thanks to Joe, Karen and Christina for arranging my appearance.

Next it was on to Boston where I did 3 speaking engagements and 4 different television interviews. My first presentation was at a prison where I had the chance to talk shop with the inmates. I completely enjoyed this as the main focus was to point out they never have to come back to a facility like this again if they remain sober. Next up was the Medford High School where 1,000 students filled the gym to hear my share my experiences and inform them on Racing for Recovery. I finished up with a presentation at a youth boxing gym for at risk kids. This was awesome to meet these young people and other individuals from the community. It is nice to see this type of facility being offered to the young people.

The media exposure was great with NBC, CBS and COMCAST covering the program and my participation in the Boston Marathon on April 17.

I just received an email from Ironman North America that I have been selected by Ford Motor Company as the "Hero of the Day" for the upcoming Ironman Arizona event that I will be participating in on April 9. I am thankful for this and look forward to my interview with them next week.

I am home for the weekend which is nice. Monday is a reading from the book From Addict to Ironman at a local drug treatment center, Tuesday is a speaking engagement here at a local high school and then Wednesday I am off to the Ironman.

Thanks to those who have ordered movies and books lately it is very much appreciated. Quick story for you here. A gentleman purchased the book at one of my speaking gigs in Boston and the next day he was carrying it into a local restaurant. A lady who was having breakfast saw the book and informed him, "I just read that book and it is amazing". The guy called me to let me know what he was told and I was overwhelmed by that. The message is getting out there and that is the point.

The Boston community is very supportive of ALL organizations that support recovery and I appreciate everyone that I met while I was in town. See you again in 2 weeks.

Enjoy your day everyone.
